frog design in partnership with Standard Chartered held an international design competition with the big theme “Inmode : Design to change the world” The main task is to create a design screen for the Standard Chartered Breeze iPhone app that has to be related with one of the issues in society, such as fighting AIDS, or increasing access to technologies in developing countries. It also has to be linked with one of the world event key dates.

I decided to join the competition, and this is my design

Becak - Inmode Design Competition

Design Explanation

My design theme is related to the World Car Free Day, which held annually on September 22.  There are so many environmental friendly vehicles that we could use as alternative to cars.  As an Indonesian young designer, I would like to introduce this traditional vehicle in Indonesia called “Becak”.

Becak is actually a kind of Cycle Rickshaws that are human – powered and type of tricycles designed to carry passengers in addition to the driver. Cycle Rickshaws are commonly used in South, Southeast, and East Asia. In Indonesia, Becak is not only popular as one of the environmental friendly transportations but also one of the tourist attractions.

Through my design, I would like to encourage people around the world to support the World Car Free Day event by riding their traditional environmental friendly transportations. Therefore, we are not only saving our planet from global warming but also preserving our traditional cultures.
